What is Baptism?
Baptism is the sacrament where a person, of any age, receives an indelible spiritual mark, is cleansed of all sin and is reborn into the family of God. They are sanctified by Christ to everlasting life by means of the sign of water and the action of the Holy Spirit.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE A GODPARENT FOR CATHOLIC BAPTISM:
The person must be a Catholic who:
has been baptized and confirmed
received the most Holy Eucharist
be at least 16 years of age
leads a life “in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken”…(that means a person who regularly attends Mass)
is not bound by any canonical penalty (i.e., excommunication)
is not the parent of the one to be baptized
A letter or note stating that the person meets the above criteria must be obtained from the sponsor’s Catholic pastor.
Those who are generally denied such a letter are usually:
not of the Catholic faith
not practicing Catholics or not registered at any Catholic Church
Catholics married outside the Church
Catholics who have not been confirmed or who are of too young of age
Peter [said] to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit. For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call.” Acts of the Apostles 2:38-39
