The Music Man Jr.

Last Friday & Saturday evening, SMS Drama Club students put on some amazing performances after months spent practicing for their Spring Musical, "The Music Man Jr."! Their performances were unforgettable, and we're still humming along in our heads this week to the catchy tunes, including "Seventy-Six Trombones", "Shipoopi", and "Goodnight, My Someone".

"The Music Man Jr." follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a children’s band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.

Nearly sold out crowds in our school gymnasium laughed at the jokes, tapped their feet to the music, & marveled at the wonderful singing, acting & dancing from our students in grades K-8!

Some students with stand out performances included Adam F. as Professor Harold Hill, Grace W. as Marian Paroo, Joseph A. as Mayor Shinn, & Julia C. as Winthrop Paroo. Click here to see the show program which includes a full cast list.

Huge thank-yous go out to Mrs. Lauren Baker, our spectacular Director, as well as Mrs. Julie Leong and Mrs. Andrea Whipple! Their long hours spent rehearsing with our students certainly paid off, as the audience reactions both nights were only stellar.

We are blessed to not only have a drama program at St. Mary School, but a phenomenal one at that!
